SSH Default Credentials

SSH & Admin Credentials — Firmware Behaviour

Overview

  • The SSH root‑level account is router (full administrative privileges).
  • Depending on firmware version, the SSH (router) and Web UI (admin) credentials are either unified or separate.

Firmware v3.2.355 and later — Unified Credentials

  • From H685‑MT6720‑v3.2.355 onward, the SSH user router is linked to the Web UI user admin.
  • On your first login, when you change the admin password in the Web UI, the SSH router password is set to the same value.
  • Changing the password in either place (Web UI or SSH using passwd) updates both accounts.

If your unit was shipped June 2024 or later, the factory Web UI and Wi‑Fi passwords are unique per router (see the underside label); best security practice is to update them to something long, complex and unique.

Firmware before v3.2.355 — Separate Credentials

  • Default SSH credentials:
    • Username: router
    • Password: admin!@#
  • Web UI (admin) and SSH (router) do not sync. Changing one does not change the other.
